David Ulevitch is an entrepreneur and investor. As a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, he leads the firm’s American Dynamism practice, which backs founders building in the national interest across areas like national security, aerospace, housing, education, logistics, and public safety. Before a16z, David spent two decades building internet infrastructure and security companies. He founded and led OpenDNS, a cloud-delivered security service acquired by Cisco, where he went on to run the company’s global security business, strategy, and product portfolio. Earlier he founded EveryDNS and grew it into the world’s largest free DNS service before selling it in 2010. David holds a BA in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis (which turned out to be way more useful than he expected) and serves on the university’s Board of Trustees. He also spent several years on the board of the Tony Hawk Foundation and is passionate about creating safe after-school activities, skateboarding included, for at-risk youth in the US and abroad. David lives in New York City with his family.
